VoterMarch Rally Schedule

BACKGROUND:
Major Security Constraint -
      From 10 am to 5 pm: CANNOT cross on-foot the Official Parade Route <which extends along Penn. Ave - from 4th St. NE all the way to 23rd St. NW

Two Sites Approved by PERMIT for VOTERmarch rallies
      From 8 am to 5 pm: DuPont Cir at 19th & P Sts NW
      From 2 pm to 5 pm: White House Ellipse - west half  ONLY<South side of White House - at Constitution Ave & 15th St. NW >

GET TO options for 'VOTERmarch' marchers <with hand made signs, noise makers,
etc.>
     (1)  Best chance to even get NEAR the official Parade Route

From SunRise to 10 am  - take up position on SOUTH side of Penn.Ave.-so can most quickly and easily proceed to 2nd 'VOTERmarch' rally/marching at the Ellipse

 - From 2 pm to 5 pm(2) Want to hear some OR all of the DuPont Cir. keynote speakers/entertainers


Anytime From 10 am to 5 pm -Affinity Groups - ( <26 persons)Use Metro to get as close to Ellipse as possible

Least walking- Take 'DuPont Cir.' <on 19th St.
> Metro Station Red Line to 'Metro Central' <at 13th St.>
and TRANSFER to Metro 'Blue OR Orange' line to Metro stop at Federal Triangle'<at 12th St. & Penn. Ave>.. Then WALK three block southwest to Ellipse at 15th St. and Constitution Ave.

Some walking - walk 1/2 mile south from
DuPont Cir. <at 19th St & P St.> to 'Farragut West' Blue/Orange station <at 19th St. & I St.>- direct to EITHER of four stops along the south side of the Official Parade Route = 'Federal Triangle' <at 12th St. & Penn Ave. NW> , 'L'Enfant Plaza <at 7th St. & D St. SW>
 Federal Center <at 3rd & D St. SW>, OR Capitol South Metro <at 1st and D St. SE Stations

More walking  - Start off with en masse group
and walk 1 1/2 miles toMetro 'Foggy Bottom/GWU' station <at 23rd & I St NW>. Then take Blue or Orange Line to Federal Triangle stop <at 12th St. & Penn Ave. NW

About 1 pm
START En Masse Group march from DuPont Cir. to Ellipse (>>> 26 persons) Walk 3 miles right to the Ellipse and then optionally drift over nearer to the official south-side of Official Penn. Ave. Parade Route as possible

During AND After offical Parade ends - from 2 pm to approximately 5 pm
String march and chant - along circular Ellipse sidewalk
+ 'Mingle' on grass & listen to guest speakers  - west of
fencing for the eastern Ellipse half <reserved for the Handicapped>

J20 PROTEST SCHEDULE (incl. Non-VoterMarch events)
9:30 to 10:00 AM: Revolutionary Anti-Authoritarian Bloc (aka Black Bloc) assembles at Franklin Square  (14th St. btw. I & K, NW). If that site is blocked, go to Freedom Plaza (14th St. at Pennsylvania Ave. NW), or else the MCI Center (F St. btw. 6th & 7th NW). www.infoshop.org/coronation.html  

10:00 AM: International Action Center assembles at Freedom Plaza (14th St. at Pennsylvania Ave. NW). www.iacenter.org  

10:00 AM: Voter March assembles at Dupont Circle (Connecticut Ave & P St. NW). Rallies there for some time then marches to west side of the Ellipse for inaugural parade. www.votermarch.org  

10:30 AM: Shadow Inauguration with Rev. Al Sharpton and a large coalition of civil rights and social justice organizations. Rally at Stanton Park (Maryland Ave. & 4th St. NE), and if possible march two blocks to Supreme Court. (212) 987-5020 

11:30 AM: National Organization for Women protest at Navy Memorial (Pennsylvania Ave. btw. 8th & 9th NW). www.now.org  

11:30 AM: Swearing-In Ceremony begins, U.S. Capitol West Steps. Cheney sworn in at 11:50 AM. Bush sworn in and delivers speech at noon. 

2:00 PM officially, likely to be closer to 3:00 PM: Inaugural Parade: Pennsylvania Ave. NW from US Capitol to White House. 

4:00 PM? There's talk of a big counter-inaugural march at the end of the day, but nothing has been finalized; check www.j20.org for updates. 

7:00 PM The official inaugural balls begin. The president goes to each one, but the time and order in which he does so are not released in advance.

NOTE:  Porta-potties WILL be available along the north and south sides of the Official Penn. Ave Parade Route. When you are ready to return home after the end of the Official Parade from the Ellipse march site, proceed by foot to Metro Central <at 13th & P Sts.> and return to the 'end-of-the-line' Metro Station  - where YOUR arriving bus was parked, or where you parked, for the day. Optimum places to watch the parade:

Beginning of the parade, as it leaves the Capitol from the north side of Constitution Avenue, between New Jersey Avenue and First Street Just after the parade turns onto Pennsylvania Avenue, at the Canadian Embassy, at the northwest corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and Fourth Street Across from the Old Post Office, at the northwest corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and 11th Street At Freedom Plaza, the southwest corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and 13th Street Watch the parade coming and where it turns north on 15th Street, the southeast corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and 15th Street. Six U.S. military bands and 38 school and other marching bands will perform in the parade, along the parade route or in other inaugural events.
